Cathal Healy Ring and Niamh McSweeney represented McEgan College on the 15th March, at the prestigious Apprentice Chef competition, which is held in Tralee IT. The students had spent weeks practicing and perfecting their dishes, under the guidance of their mentor chef Mark Doe and teacher Hazel Bourke. The students used the opportunity to show case quality locally produced ingredients. Cathal’s dish featured Langoustine Prawns supplied by Clancy’s Fishmongers combined with a Quinoa and Cous Cous Salad. Niamh used Free range Chicken and the award winning Toon’s Bridge Mozzarella Cheese. Both students enjoyed the experience of getting to cook in a professional kitchen under the guidance of industry chefs. The judges said they were awed by the standard of skills and presentation by all students who represented schools from all over Munster. Congratulations to Niamh who has successfully qualified for the finals due to be held in IT Tralee in May.
Congratulations to all the students who received awards at the UCC+ Student Achievement Awards Night 2017. The ceremony took place on the 14th of March at 7pm at Boole 4 Lecture Theatre, University College Cork. The students commended were Robin Kiss, Emma Horgan, Sheena Sheehan,Emilija Jakovlevaite,Jessica McSweeney, Anika Roberts, Denis Lehane. The UCC+ Programme is a vital one that assists students to have equal opportunity to succeed at third level. The programme supports students as they prepare to chose their options for further education.
Kieran Murphy of Murphy Engineering Demonstrations from Toames, Macroom giving an excellent engine demonstration. Students were treated to a top class demonstration of a fully working four cylinder engine with accompanying gearbox and clutch.
